In 1976, when there were only 250 computers in the country, Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, led a team of eight young people who passionately believed in the power of information technology and the potential to create a thriving IT industry in India.
From that vision, born in a Delhi “Barsanti” (a small rooftop room), has grown a global enterprise. HCL Technologies (spun off as a separate unit in 1991) is today is one of the leading IT service providers worldwide, with a revenue of US$ 10.17 bn.

The Foundation is investing generously in creating leadership institutions that serve urban and rural populations: Vidya Gyan, which nurtures leadership in rural India; Shiv Nadar Schools,
which creates a community of independent, lifelong learners; Shiv Nadar University, which specializes in specific disciplinary areas and develops a broad-based learning foundation, and SSN College of Engineering, which has created leaders in diverse fields since 1996.
